Securing Voting Rights

I applaud the efforts Joel Dykstra for taking the initiative to put an initiated measure on the ballot that would ensure use of the secret ballot in election activities, including union establishment elections.

According to the Capital Journal, this amendment to our state constitution would ensure that our states’ employees retain the right to choose for themselves whether to unionize within the workplace or not and remain free of outside pressures, harassment, or coercion.

Secret ballot elections are fundamental to a working democracy, where individuals are free to vote their own mind free of outside influence, and this initiative is a great response by our state to the Employee Free Choice Act, which is being pushed on us by the national government.
