Helping Your Neighbor...

KSFY recently came out with a story saying food pantries across South Dakota are seeing record amounts of donations coming in. Even with all of the economic turmoil on all of our minds, South Dakotans are more willing than ever to do what they can to help out those around us that are less fortunate. Read more here…

Our long tradition of helping out our friends and neighbors really speaks to the character of people we have here in South Dakota. According to Forbes.com, in 2006 South Dakota ranked 12th in the nation for charitable giving. In addition, almost 40% of South Dakotans volunteered in one way or another over the course of the year.

As Thanksgiving is quickly approaching, let’s not forget that not everyone is fortunate enough to have a turkey with all the fixings. Economic times are tough, and many hardworking folks have lost their jobs and are trying to make ends meet. We all have something we can do to help, whether it is through our time, talents, or wallets in order to help those of us that have come on hard times.
